Part-Time Diploma program in Nuclear Engineering

The University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) offers a part-time Diploma program in Nuclear Engineering that allows students to broaden their knowledge and enhance their core skills in nuclear engineering at a graduate level. Courses are given outside of working hours to accommodate people with a full-time job. Students completing the Diploma will gain theoretical and practical knowledge of at least two fundamental disciplines in nuclear engineering, plus two areas of specialization. The Diploma is jointly delivered between McMaster University and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). The student will be granted a Graduate Diploma upon the completion of 4 half courses within a three year period and a minimum passing grade of B- for each course. The courses are common with the UNENE M.Eng. program, to facilitate transfers between the two programs should a student wish to do so before completion. The UNENE Diploma program is offered on a part-time basis only and is not suitable for most international students.

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree in the fields of engineering, science or mathematics with an acceptable grade point average, similar to that for entry into a Master’s degree programme. Consideration will be given to work experience.  In addition, applicants must be deemed to have satisfactory preparation, as a result of university education and work experience, to succeed in the program. The Department Chair, upon the recommendation of the departmental Graduate Admissions Committee, will make admission recommendations to the School of Graduate Studies.

The student will be granted a Graduate Diploma in “Nuclear Technology” upon the completion of 4 half courses within a three year period with a minimum passing grade of B- for each course.  The courses must be selected from the course list and at least two of the courses must be at the 700 level. Exceptions to these course requirements must be granted by special permission from the Faculty of Engineering Graduate Admissions and Study Committee acting on the recommendation of the Department Chair. Note: Course availability and schedule are subject to a sufficient enrollment.
